REALTORS® know that Fair Housing is foundational to a healthy real estate market and strong communities. Education and training play a critical role in upholding housing laws, addressing bias, and ensuring that all qualified buyers and renters are treated with dignity and fairness.

Bias Override: Overcoming Barriers to Fair Housing helps real estate professionals interrupt stereotypical thinking so they can avoid fair housing pitfalls and provide equal professional service to every customer or client. Participants will examine the history of bias in real estate, learn about the mind science of identity, study how implicit bias can result in fair housing violations, and engage in interactive exercises to enhance communication skills and business relationships with clients of all backgrounds.

At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:

• Describe the history of bias and discrimination in real estate to understand how neighborhoods became segregated and appreciate the challenges many consumers still face because of their identities.

• Explain how implicit bias may result in violations of Fair Housing laws and industry ethics.

• Identify interventions to prevent implicit bias, identity anxiety, and stereotype threat from influencing behavior so that consumers are treated with equal concern, respect, and fairness.

• Increase personal motivation to confront these phenomena in their business and community.

Instructor: Beverly Pindling - ABR, AHWD, C2EX, CRS, EAH, GREEN GRI, ITI, PKC, RMC, SRES

Beverly is a native of Jamaica West Indies. Her career began in New York City and later led her to the Washington D.C area. She came to Orlando in August 1983. Beverly has been involved in real estate for over four decades. Since her involvement she has acquired many designations in the Real Estate Industry including ABR, AHWD, C2EX, CRS, EAH, GREEN, GRI, ITI, PKC, RMC, and SRES.

Beverly is the Broker Owner of BP Real Estate Services LLC.

Beverly’s education includes attending New York University and later graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing and International Business from Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey.

Beverly’s greatest joy is spending time with her daughter Erika and her granddaughter Brandee.

Some of Beverly's many accomplishments include:

• 2006 President of Orlando Regional Realtors Association - first Minority to be elected to this position in the 100 years of its existence.
• 2007 Realtor of the Year - The highest esteemed honor bestowed on an Orlando Reginal Realtor Association member.
• State Educator of the Year for 2012-2013.
• Educator of the Year - Orlando Regional Realtor Association in 2014 and 2020.
• 2020 graduate of the NAR Director Mentoring Program.
• Served as a NAR 2022 Mentor for new Realtors.
• Florida Realtors Board of Directors member.
• NAR Board of Directors for several years
